My quick-fix for Dwight Howard’s persistent free-throw woes

  1. I just found your wonderful site! I'm a 61 year-old ex-jock who has been harping on Dwight's free throw impersonation for years. You are exactly right about shooting hundreds of free throws in practice wrong, exactly the same way, and expecting different results = INSANITY! Yao is 7'6" and shoots superbly! He must have big hands, too, but seems to have solved the downward angle problem. Dwight is NOT worried about his achilles heel. I think he should at least try the "Barry" method of underhand. Soft landing on rim, chance for rebound, can't be any worse than his slow-bounce, bounce, bounce, stare, klang, DANG! At least Wilt tried different methods. Remember his stepping all the way back to the circle, and firing away? God Bless!!!

  2. Thanks, Chuck.

This is poetry: "slow-bounce, bounce, bounce, stare, klang, DANG!"

Glad to hear you swat the "big hands" excuse. There have been hundreds of NBA players 6-10 or taller, most of them with big hands. Lots of those guys could (and can) shoot really well. But that doesn't prevent dimwits like Doug Collins from pointing out how Shaq and other tall bricklayers are cursed with big hands.
